Admission is granted to those who demonstrate basic knowledge, insight and skills in:

  • the position and functioning of new media in culture, society, and politics
  • the analysis of digital communication in all its guises
  • quantitative and qualitative research methods
  • hands-on new media practices

Students with a BA Theatre, Film and Television Studies, a BA Communication and Information Studies or a BA Language and Culture Studies (with a Media Studies track) are considered to meet these requirements and they automatically qualify for admission when they have completed the following four courses:

  1. Geschiedenis en theorie van de nieuwe media (level 1 course, 7.5 ECTS)t
  2. Practicum nieuwe media (level 3 course, 7.5 ECTS)
  3. Filosofie van media en communicatie (level 3 course, 7.5 ECTS)
  4. One out of the following:
    • Nieuwe media en populaire cultuur: computergames (level 3 course, 7.5 ECTS)
    • Nieuwe media & participatiecultuur (level 3 course, 7.5 ECTS)
    • New media new citizenship (level 3 course, 7.5 ECTS)
    • Nieuwe media in het actuele debat (level 2 course, 7.5 ECTS)
    • Nieuwe media en het auteursrecht (level 2 course, 7.5 ECTS)
    • Interface culture (level 3 course, 7.5 ECTS)

If you have an other BA degree or a degree from a University of Applied Sciences (HBO diploma) you can gain admission by demonstrating to have acquired comparable competences, or by entering the pre-Master's programme. The pre-Master's programme is tailored to the New Media & Digital Culture Master’s degree programme and comprises of either 30 or 60 ECTS.
